During the first Family Day of Joy, everyone noticed about the extreme poverty of some of the event and church attendees. Pastors Cortes immediately realized they had to do something about it, a year-round food bank. “Daily, we hear devastating stories of people in need. Some are church attendees, and some aren’t. We feel responsible for the well-being of the families in our community “expressed Pastor Rolando Cortes.
Over the past years, Life En El Camino has been providing free food diligently to the most impoverished individuals in the Los Angeles community. Every week, volunteers unite their efforts to pack food for over two hundred families and homeless people. Each pack is full of food enough to feed a family or a homeless person for seven days. Our theme is, “no one goes hungry," says Zorayda Mejia.
The food bank has two distribution days at their location, Wednesdays and Sundays, and once a month in residential buildings.
Life En El Camino offers free counseling services to people in their community. They are all accepted by appointment only.
